Get AC Savvy
We're in the midst of a heat wave here in the Bay Area with temps soaring into the 90s in what are usually our most temperate cities, and even higher as you move inland. Very few homes in the Inner East Bay have AC because until the last decade or so we really haven't needed it, with high temps staying in the 70s or occasionally low 80s. But as global warming delivers more extreme weather, AC has become increasingly popular, and in times like these I definitely have AC envy!
If this week's high temps have you thinking of taking the plunge and installing AC, be sure to consider all of your options. If you have an older furnace, your best bet is likely to replace it with an electric heat pump that can deliver both heating and cooling, for just a bit more than the cost of installing an AC unit. A mini-split is also a great solution if you just have a problem spot or two in your home that really heat up, or you want to manage costs by just cooling your bedroom to safeguard your sleep on hot nights. I'm always happy to talk about this or any other home improvements you're considering to help you understand your options and/or think through how your choices may be received by potential buyers down the road.
As for me, I'll continue to be thankful that my old furnace is still working, but secretly rooting for its demise so I can justify that electric heat pump purchase and finally enjoy a cool breeze on hot days. How are you keeping cool this week??

I’ve never been much of a sports fan and I don’t speak a word of Spanish, but I’m still riding high from this year’s Benito Bowl and playing DeBí TiRAR MáS FOToS.
I’m enjoying the warming temps and gorgeous blooms and trying to take moments here and there to just appreciate the little thing
First, gather ‘round for a story about “the olden days” as Miles likes to call the 1990s.
It’s time to build up our resistance community and get to work.
As my New Year's card suggests, I’ve not exactly been looking forward to 2025.
