Birthdays, Galentine’s, and Gearing Up for a Country in Disarray

February 21, 2025

What a whirlwind of a month it’s been. At the start of February, we celebrated Miles’ 12th (!) birthday with a dozen of his friends at our house, and last week I gathered a group of local moms for the first of what I hope will be an ongoing series of Moms Nights Out. And because when it rains it pours (and boy has it been raining, thank goodness), I also launched my first listing of the year, hosting the first Saturday & Sunday open houses the day of and the day after Miles’ party, and we reviewed offers and negotiated a winning deal the day of the Moms’ night, finalizing the details just minutes before I had to dash off to the event.

But interspersed with all the joy in my personal and professional life, I am watching in horror as new attacks against immigrants, the trans community, women' s rights, DEI, federal workers, critical departments, safety nets, protections, and our democracy itself are being launched daily. I know some businesses steer clear of “politics,” but in case it hasn’t already been obvious, this ain’t one of them. To quote one of my favorite t-shirts, around these parts, we are pro-Black and anti-bullshit. And I’ll add Pro-immigrant. Pro-women and yes, that of course includes Trans women. We’ve got a tough road ahead, but in the inspiring words of Jamyle K Cannon, “The way out of survival mode is to imagine and pursue a positive future. To throw our support behind people, parties, organizations, and movements doing something about it, who are as clear about what they are fighting for as what they’re fighting against. They need you to stop scrolling and show up with your time, money, and talent, or at least carry water and chop wood for the cause. We’re going to be ok. If we wake up and work.” So, in that spirit, please let me know about any actions you’re planning that I can join in on - it’s time to build up our resistance community and get to work.

Real Estate update

Ok, this is an awkward transition, but in case you came here for Real Estate news instead of revolution, let’s get into it.

With dry weather through most of January, the early Spring market is off to a brisk start, with more inventory than usual hitting the market in January and early February. That inventory was met with lots of eager buyers battling over the most desirable homes, resulting in bidding wars and over-the-top pre-emptive offers. But as was the case in the Fall, the properties that missed the mark on presentation, marketing, or pricing were left with no love and are now taking price cuts. This presents an opportunity for buyers who are willing to overlook some flaws in favor of a good deal. We’re expecting lots more inventory as we close out February and head into March, and I anticipate we’ll continue this trend of stiff competition for certain properties while others struggle to find their buyer.
